The Last Days of Watteau

Tamar Guimarães & Kasper Akhøj

Cinematography by Johanne Debas.

In The Last Days of Watteau Brazilian artist Tamar Guimarães and Danish artist Kasper Akhøj, investigate the Maison d’Art Bernard Anthonioz, part of Jeu de Paume. The work itself is a photo novella, revolving around the oral and written history as well as the rumors of the site where the MABA stands, where painter Antoine Watteau was said to have died.

It is set in the historical environments of house; from the ‘fêtes galantes’ to the basements with African mask, with actors, invited guests and members and staff of Jeu de Paume and the MABA, thereby creating the conditions for articulating not only the anecdotes that animate the rich life of the MABA but also for setting off a chain reaction to them.
